Hognose in my yard

Ivory tortoise May 29, 2006 08:57 PM

I don't get out much but usually find a few critters in my yard and on the road to my house. During the past couple of days I found this female Mexican hognosed snake (my wife saw her a couple of days ago and she poked her head out from under the porch a few minutes ago), an Arizona Alligator Lizard, Regal horned lizard, Clark's spiny lizard, Tree lizards (Urosaurus), Desert grassland whiptails, Big-bend patch nose snake, several gophers snakes, long-nosed snake, Red-racer (Masticophis), and Woodhouse toads (lots of tadpoles in my pond).

By now you probaly have guessed that I live at the foot of the Huachuca Mountains. They finally have the forest fire in Ash Canyon under control.

This is the horned lizard I saw. I have found the Regal (pictured), Texas, and Short-horned lizards all in my yard at one time or another.
