reptimals May 30, 2006 06:01 PM

Just curious what is the average temprature that people keep there reptile rooms at? i was thinking of stopping to use heat tape/rope and just heating up the whole room as a whole .. what is the best temp. to stay around? is it ok to not have a one end that is a couple degrees colder or warmer then the other?

thanks

I keep my room at about 80*, I heat each cage to 90* on the hot side to about 86* on the cool side. I found this set up works the best for me and don't plan on changing a thing. I use heat tape exlusively as supplemental heat. Heating the room saves from running tape at max.

Just my Own Opinion

I keep my room at 85 during the day and 80 at night with 60 to 70% humidity

I use RHP's (radient heat panels) instead of flex-watt. But the temps are just as his.
Things that you should have are thermostats in every cage, and a temp gun to monitor all areas of a cage. I was suprised to see how much fluctuation I got between different type cages. I love my cheepo temp gun.

A temp gun is almost required tool in the reptile room. I also use dimmers in place of thermostats. Heat control is a requirement not an option.

I previously wrote that every cage should have a t-stat, I meant to say that each needs to have a thermometer -- sorry.
