Well she is nearing a year and weighing in at 1135 grams... She is looking beautiful and has been a pig, never skipping a meal...
Let me know what you think,

So what did the female look like!

EmberBall May 30, 2006 09:21 PM

Amazing Tom, she is just soooo sweet! What are you going to breed to her?

Dave

Python Dreams May 31, 2006 01:02 AM

Hey Dave,
Im not sure what I am going to breed her to??? The father is the obvious choice, but I am partially worried that maybe a Super Mojave would result washing out anything else that might be going on... I could also use a Normal male sibling from the same clutch but I doubt I would do that.... Pastel Mojave maybe... I don't know, but I will get some opinions before I do anything....

Why not breed her to a Phantom or Mystic Tom??? That's what I would try , I agree back to her father may delete the results and just make another white snake, the Phantom/Mystic in my opinion would only help matters... Time will tell either way as I will be breeding the Mystic line into the Mojave line anyway at some point... Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles...

Never heard that one. I mostly hang on the boa forum and figured i messed something.

Mystics appear to be the same as RDR's Phantoms, but since my founding male was imported I cannot rightfully say it is the same thing as the phantoms until I produce a SUPER which looks the same as a Super Phantom ... We believe it is the same thing but I decided to call them Mystics to keep the confusion to a minimum.. RDR calls his Yellow Bellies something different even though they are the same thing as other true YB's, my viewpoint is the same , if nothing else it lets people know where the origins started, from that point on it's up to others what to call them , a name really is just a name , the gentics is what matters the way I see it... Regardless if you say "six" or half a dozen the end result is the same thing, do you get me? Until I do the breeding and the crosses it's all an opinion regardless, but lets just say I'm not to worried about the outcome anyway as at this point it makes complete sence to alot of people that know what's going on... This is the founding male , the other pic is the Mystic hatchling on top of a Mojave for comparison.. It wasn't the pic I wanted to post but it will do for now, the other pic in this thread is the same hatchling and is easier to see, I hate taking pictures , they never turn out the way I want them to.. Tom,

Is the crystal ball recessive? If it is, when are you going to be selling the hets? Amazing looking snake!!!!

Kyle

Python Dreams May 31, 2006 01:06 AM

I have no idea if it is recessive... I'm kinda just swinging it by ear at the moment... I do have a normal male from the Crystal clutch that would be a het if it was proven recessive... I don't think people would want to pay money and take the chance to find out if it is recessive til I have more info....

Thanks for the positive responses everyone....
I'm not ready to show mom yet, until I have a better understanding of the situation... I hope that this coming season will have some answers, but we will have to see.
I am very stoked that she has stayed a good looking snake up over 1100 grams and it will be exciting to see what she can produce... I would love to see a Pastel Crystal!!!

Very nice!

Perhaps mom is something like the normal siblings from Platy X normal - a gene carrier for something that combines nicely with the white snake group and may well be an allele of that group. I don't know if there are any visual cues for those carriers (the lesser normal sibs) like clear bellies.

Of course the crystal looks even more faded out that the platy so maybe it's yet another new variation and not the same dilute gene. However, with this one extra gene theory the special mojave sibling couldn't have the gene because if it did it would be a crystal too so if it really is beyond the range of normal mojaves then that would tend to support something more complicated going on like recessive.

Could it be that Tom's SECRET Female is a Phantom of some sort? If you look at the CRYSTAL BALL and Ralphs SUPER PHANTOM they have the same kind of pattern, Not Exact but similar, I relize the COLOR of the Crystal ball and the Super Phantom are different, But what I am wondering is if you CROSS a MOJAVE to Ralphs Phantoms if you would possibly come up with something similar to the Crystal? Also MAYBE the Crystals MOM looks like a PHANTOM, I personally don't know because we have not seen any photo's of the CRYSTAL's MOM, All we know is Dad was a MOjave, But when Ralph produced the Super Phantom I noticed that the Patterns of the Two looked pretty close, Except the Color, But the patterns of the two are very close. These are just MY OPINIONS and in NO way am I Walking on either the Super phantom or the Crystal ball, They are both SUPER ANIMALS, I am just wondering if The MOM of the Crystal could be a NEW BLOOD Phantom Type. I guess time will tell. Come one Tom let me see a photo of the MOM already!!!! Thanks David

WRONG... The only time I was WRONG is when I thought I was WRONG but I was really RIGHT.....LOL...LOL...LOL

RandyRemington May 31, 2006 11:00 PM

Could be mom is a phantom type ball. I think RDR still has all of his line of phantoms locked up still so probably no one to put that theory to the test any time soon. Maybe the crystal ball can be bred to a white snake to see if all the babies turn out to be super types or not. Per this theory she should produce about 50/50 super mojaves and crystal balls bred to a super mojave.

anthony james mc May 31, 2006 11:31 PM

I'm not so sure that is the case Randy, perhaps you should look a little closer at my posts... I will be breeding Mystics to Mojaves sooner than you might think... Compare the pics , I have more pics if you think you need them, it isn't really that hard to tell that the Mystic line shares alot more phantom traits than ANY other line you compare them to. Afterall we are talking co-doms here with visual markers , and based on that fact alone the Mystic trait leans more towards the phantom side than anything else, even RDR agrees on that fact.. Time will tell I guess, that's what keeps this industry interesting, Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles..

RandyRemington Jun 01, 2006 06:41 AM

Get'er done and let us know!

Is your mojave a female or your baby mystic? Next year maybe?

Sounds like the crystal could go next year too.

Always next year for the answers

anthony james mc Jun 01, 2006 10:15 AM

Randy , both the Mystics are males so far, I have 2 clutches incubating which should produce more Mystics , I have several female Mojaves to breed to Mystics once they are mature so yes it will take some time but hopefully not to long to see what my resulting cross looks like.. It makes perfect sence to me that the Crystal Ball is the cross between the 2 morphs, and that the produce is an intermediate between the 2 forms of Supers, in other words the alleles are alining up in a way that both genes are influencing each other and the result looks like the crystal ball.. It makes sence that the Crystal is darker now than she was as a baby , if you notice the Super Phantoms also did the same thing the "smokey" coloration seemed to darken up a bit. Perhaps the Phantom gene is causing the crystal ball to do the same thing as the Phantom gene is dominant at the same loci making the animal darken up (if you will) over the white coming from the Mojave side (meaning the Super form of the Mojave on it's own )... It seems to make more sence that something like this is happening vs the odds of a recessive gene lining up , the odds of the original Mojave and the mother both having the exact same recessive genes don't seem very likely to me, it is possible I agree but not nearly as likely as the possibility of 2 co-dominant genes working together.. This is just an opinion and I really don't care to argue about genetics, my terminology may not be the best as this is just my common sence way of looking at the end result , I'll leave the genetics spiel for someone more qualified.. Regardless if I am correct I think that's cool in itself.. Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles..
