outdoorsman May 30, 2006 10:36 PM

I was wondering,I have read a lot of posts, most of them in fact.Have not seen this one, what do you do if your gone for the day, maybe 12 hours or so, do your lizards get on a time clock of sorts.I work 12's,so I leave in the morn at 5am and don't get home till 5am.Of course only three on at a time, and four off.Would that be a problem food wise, yea I know the lights can be timed but how about there feeding clock?Or what if you go away for a week, or don't you guys go on vacation ever. thanks for the picts boa,did you make that tank, nice.scott

I don't know how everyone else goes about this area. I normally feed the HLs early in the morning if I am to be gone for most of the day, for whichever reason. I feed them double, if they're hungry for it, and will leave water available as well as some food in a shallow dish (mealworms and waxworms) on a cooler end so that they (the insects) don't fry/die in the meantime.

If it's for over a day, and I can plan in advance, I will ask someone I know who I trust with the HLs to stop by and feed them/look after them in the meantime. But I try not to spend too much time away, since most HLs can lose weight pretty fast.

Does anyone here take care of DHLs? I have one, actually it is my daughter's pet. We have to leave it with someone for approx. 17 days. I've contacted professional pet sitters, and there is someone who will give our DHL the ants, but they have never done this type of thing before. It occured to me that it would be better to leave our DHL with someone who already owns DHLs, who is in my area (Oceanside, Ca). I am willing to pay, $5.00/day, and I'll provide the ants along with terrariums (1 for DHL, 1 for ants) and lights. We just don't have anyone nearby that we know, who we trust, who is going to be in town during this time-frame. Let me know if you are interested. If you think this is totally misguided, I would like to know that as well. Might as well find out. Thanks, Chris
