OK, just looked at Cyrus and his hemipene was out, but he then retracted it. Never having had a male cham before, and all the recent posts about prolapse, I am concerned - should I be?? Do they sometimes push it out? Is he having a hard time pooping? He has not been eating, or pooping much. What to do??

... but would still like advice. I gave him a warm soak (which he surprisingly did not object to! I also gave him a couple waxworms to soften things up. I looked for poop below the branch where he did his little "look at me, I'm a guy" thing, but see none.

This actaully happpened to my first panther. It came out about 3/4" of an inch, and then he retracted it. I don't know what its from, but he lived for over 2 years after it happened. I hope everything is ok...

Don't panic lele...they do this once in a while. For some reason, I have seen it happen more with panther chameleons than others. Don't have a clue why. Just keep an eye on him to see if it happens again...and if its happening frequently or if there is any swelling or discoloration then you might need to worry about it.

I don't think that the hemipenes being pushed out would have anything to do with having a hard time pooping...but I don't know the muscle structure well enough to be sure.

"He has not been eating, or pooping much. What to do??"...I know you have posted pictures, but I don't remember anything being in the recent pictures that would show his size...is he getting close to full grown? If so, it could be a natural slow-down.

Don't chameleons keep us in a constant state of worry??!!

Hey lele, on a serious note I had my chuckwalla prolaspe on the weekend at night, and had to handle , (hahahah) the situation myself. If it were to happen of course call the vet asap but until then, you can soak them in COOL sugar water and then cover the area with KY-jelly until your able to get to the vet.

It keeps everything moist, and from drying out. Since that happened, I have added K- Jelly to the lizard medicine chest. My chuck was back to normal by morning and it has not happened since, but was very scary for many many hours.

Hope this never happens to him though.

glad your chuck was alright! When I forsdt saw it I got panicked after all the recent threads on the subject(!) but he retracted it and all seems well. ahh...and I thought having a boy would be easy
