difference in northern and southern ring

wisema2297 May 31, 2006 02:43 PM

How do I tell the difference between the northern and southern ringnecks? I live in Hanover County, VA wich is in the integration zone for the two. I find them all the time while out looking for Eastern Kings.

Northerns - Full ring, very little to no spots on belly

Southerns - Usually broken ring, full spotted belly, red/orange tail

Intergrades can easily be determined as you'll see mixes of these.

Here u can clearly see the solid ring, and northern and southren both have reddish-orange belly's, not wat the other guy said that only the southren's have reddish-orange.
