Need Help With Tree for Prehensile Tailed Skink (Urgent)

Deke Jul 31, 2003 04:09 PM

I'm obtaining my PTS fairly soon, and am currently putting together the vivarium. I thought it may be an idea to find a tree that would be suitable, instead of buying synthetic materials. Does anyone know of a suitable tree or bush. The viv will be 3ft high, 4ft long and 2ft wide. Obviously it'll have to do well in the warmth, and provide the right humidity, while being stable enough for him to climb in. Any suggestions?

They live in hollow portions of the Strangler Fig in the mountainous areas of the Solomon Islands.

I suppose any fig tree would be more than suitable for your captive lizard. They would love it if there was a hollow section to hide out in.

I would personally use corkbark. Its easier to get at local shops and through the web. Cheap to ship and clean. It is really hollow and PTS's would love climbing inside. I usually find it cheaper to get it at shows but you can get it here as well:

If you use local wild cut branches, be sure to treat them for parasites. Bake it in the oven or spray with prevent A mite or something. Just a thought.
