A visit to Will Wells

rdbartlett May 31, 2006 08:58 PM

A month ago, while accruing photos for a forthcoming fieldguide, I had an opportunity to visit Will. For the opportunity I want to thank Will, and for those who have not seen his set up-- you really are missing something that is obviously a labor of love.
To say that his adults were in fantastic shape, including beautiful and natural colors, is an understatement. Species as diverse as collaris, nebrius, and vestigium (and many others) were represented and the females of most were gravid. There is much to be said for the ease of keeping a collection of these wonderful lizards while iving in the heart of Crotaphytus country, but there is even more to be said for the obvious dedication that Will lavishes on his collection. Thanx Will! And Brock N., it was good meeting you also.

cheers/dick

or does anyone else you know keep them?

I was just today looking at an old fold-out Crotaphytus poster inside of a very old copy of The Vivarium magazine. The pictures and article were by Bob Sprackland. Does anyone remember that poster? Very cool photos with a nice blue male C. dickersonae.

I would really like to keep a desert vivarium with a pair of these. Wow! They are truly spectacular.

question (I feel sure he'll see it).
I just don't know what Will does or does not wish known about his animals. The three races I mentioned are common and I've seen him mention all on this forum. There may be others he hsan't mentioned. Cheers/Dick

I reckon we need some pics of his set ups then.

I must admit i am very jealous of your guys over in ther USA as you are so much further on than we are with reagrds to captive bred reps.

The colours / morphs etc just aren't over here in the UK in all reps,, especially beardies and collareds. Infact people in the UK seem to struggle to breed collareds as i have found no other breeders of them other than myself and a chap in Holland.

Richard, Thanks for the kind words. It was an honor to have you over to photo some of my collareds. Anytime you are in the neighborhood, stop by. If you are ever photoing collareds or anything else in the southwest, look me up, I'd love to tag along.
