Jumping Beardie

SkimmerSet May 31, 2006 10:03 PM

My male beardie (Petri-6 months) has recently become more skiddish with handling, etc and I am trying to figure out exactly how to handle this. I still pick him up and handle him daily, but he has recently (last month or so) started jumping out of my hand and running off more. I may just be an overly worried mother with an overactive bearded, but just in case I wanted to check with everyone else as I'm sure some of you have dealt with this at some point. I'm not quite sure how to handle him anymore without having to hold him right over his enclosure for fear of him getting away from me... atleast then if he jumps- it's back home. Any suggestions for calming him down a little or will this just phase out eventually?

I've noticed a period in my dragons too when they are less tolerable of handling. They seem to go through a teen phase where they would rather be left alone. As long as you keep handling him regularly like most do, he should calm as well. Good luck with him.. just keep on handling for short periods during the day. If need be take him into a room you can close the door, and handle him safely without him running off to far.
