Phase 1 complete

feeniee Jun 01, 2006 12:18 AM

I currently have a 30 gallon SW tank sitting in my kitchen. Going through a cycle. I quickly learned that aquarium salt and my sensative skin don't mix! LOL. I've got 3 5 gallon buckets with lids soaking tonight, so tomorrow night, I can go to her house and bring the coral and plants ( I'm gonna have to learn the names real quick) and set them up in the 30 gallon for temporary housing. My Friend is setting up another 30 gallon tank at her place tonight to put the fish in. So Tomorrow night its phase two.... The transporting of all rocks and corals to my place to put in the 30 gallon. She's keeping the fish at her place in another 30 gallon while we dismantle the main tank and clean it out good. She is using an underwater filter right now, that I'm not too thrilled about, but we'll see. I'm already on the hunt for cool fish, but the ones I like are mean. Go Figure. Sooo I'll keep you posted. and run back with questions. I thought about putting some seahorses in the tank, but the flow is really strong and seahorses are not that strong and would probably starve in my set up. Damn. Oh well. I saw this cool Cow fish that I liked, but I'm only going to keep the fish she is giving me and I'll get a few bottom feeders and peppermint shrimp and lots of snails for now........
URGGGGG*** Just when you get comfy and in a routine....

Oh well, I'm gonna have the coolest freaking SW tank EVER!!!

Yes, cow fish are awesome.... so what do you do for work, I mean you must be exhausted... I have an 11 month and well I would like more pets but heck, with 2 chams 3 geckos a dog and a chinchilla and yard work at my mothers house I've got enough now not to mention going back to work soon...how do you do it.... you should market your own training DVD set on how to be feenie in 1 million steps.. LOL

Feeniee. Get a cowfish, they are the best investment ever. LOL, I had one named Moo. They are the most inquisitive little fish- they just sort of putter around and are friends with all the other fish, and are the cutest darn things. Good luck with your tank!

LOL, the last think this world needs in another Feenie!!!
But it's all about Routine and staying on top of all the "issues" that arise. My friends tease me that I run my house like a Boot Camp . Everything has a time and place and heaven forbid something unexpected happen..... My dogs are like little soldiers.. They have their "routines" in the morning and the evening, They march in a singe line from the littlest to the biggest and I they hold us accountable if we "miss" a play time or a treat and they decide when the "make-up" times will be. Usually at like 3am, they'll sit on the foot of the bed with a frisby or a ball and give me the stare down.... I'm the type of person who HAS to stay busy... or I get in trouble or go shopping.... LOL. I think it's easy for me because I enjoy it... I love my pets, my house, my yard, my truck...and most of the time my job..

Michele.. I was looking at the Cow Fish.. they are pretty cool! I've always wanted a "puffer" fish, but the Cows are more colorful... at least the one's I've seen. I'm not sure if I want more plants in there or more fish... I guess it all depends on how well the tank tank takes to it's new home..

Stay tuned for Phase 2

How are things going? I won't lie and tell you that I do not have several years experience in this. So, I'm going to be frank.

1. Take it slow before jumping into this. Don't add fish for a couple of weeks until the tank has settled. Then add a damselfish or several. The nutrients in the water have to go thru cycles before things stabelize and animals will do well. You are setting up a ecosystem and if you overload it, it will crash and waste your money.

2. Do your research. Find out what conditions you need for all the coral, algae, invertebrates and fish. They may have different requirements, attitudes, and will all not play well together.

3. It changes, be prepared for a fish to eat your shrimp or vice versa. i.e. you cannot put certain animals and corals together.

4. It is expensive, not just the lights, but the salt and nutrients, fish & coral food, etc... you'll see.

5. Have fun, you'll spend hours of nose rubbing glass....just don't forget to feed your chams!

It is a whole 'nother world...

Have fun

Michael

Sea Horses are VERY hard to take care of. If you don;t have everything completely perfect, they die quickly. Not a good choice in my opinion. Post pics when ya get it set up.
