Probe Placement Question

voodoomagik Jun 01, 2006 08:48 AM

Hi, everybody!
I'm currently using Boaphile cages and Helix thermostats. I know that a lot of people place the probe from the thermostat in-between two cages by taping the probe to the bottom cage and simply placing the other cage on top. My questions are these:
Has anyone experienced damage to either the probe or the cages?
Has the probe ever been crushed or damaged by the weight of the cages?
What about the probe at the bottom of a stack of 6 cages?
What if the bottom cage was sitting on a melamine board?
Would the cage have enough "give" to not damage the probe?
Have the cages been bent or warped due to the bump created by the probe?
Thanks in advance for your help with this. Please let me know what you think.
Aaron

If you must put the probe between cages, I would suggest getting some wood or something that is as thick as the probe. Tileboard might work. Use two pieces of the material, and leave a gap where the probe can be placed.
Kind of like this: ___________ ____________
___________ 0 ____________

If one cage in a stack of many is off kilter because of a probe underneath, the whole stack will be funky and wobbly, know what I mean? The weight can't be good for a probe.

Thank you!
That's exactly what I'm doing right now, but I was thinking of trying it the other way. I know a lot of people do it that way and was wondering what they thought. Any thoughts from that crew?
Thanks again for your response though!

the best place for that question would be to ask Jeff Ronne, the Boaphile, or his employees. I am sure that he has more experience than anyone in this matter. Since you bought Boaphile cages I am sure he/they will help you.

Thank you.
Actually, that's exactly what I did after I posted this. He explained to me how he does it.
I was just kicking around some ideas and wondering what everyone else had experienced.
