Gloydi pic for John

Jun 01, 2006 10:19 AM

Hi John
They have grown and grown, and the female is now about 120 cm and gravid. The male started to get a small head, and I reduced feeding, so that he will get a right size head to the rest of the body.
Therefor it is a normal colored male that has copulated.
They still miss the read head like there parents, but it is comming slowly. They are only 1½ years old so there is time.
For others that don`t recognize this beautifull snake. It is a Pantherophis vulpinus gloydi from Toledo.

One of my absolute favorites John.
Best wishes

I love the photos. They look healthy and happy. You must be a generous snake keeper. And already gravid. Excellent.

Here's a picture of Dad.

Hi Althea
Actually there are many things that makes eastern fox snakes one of my favorites, even I do keep quite a few species of ratsnakes.
First of all they are very active, and if kept right (cooler than you think) they are VERY active during the day and always curious. They grow fast, are easy to keep, and I have newer had ANY snakes as easy when newly hatched. I takes 5 minutes to feed an intire clutch.
They can be so nice colored, but the nice ones are hard to find
Common ones are like these:

Still pretty, but not these "knockouts" as seen from Toledo.

More info can be found at my website

...their grandparents are breeding at my house as we speak.

Denmark is quite a range extension for gloydi. We'll have to write this one into the next edition of Schulz's Monograph.

Bart, the trio is flourishing. I gave them an air conditioned room this year and they seem to like the climate control. I hope it allows me to fatten them up in July and August when they would otherwise quit eating for the summer.

Best regards
John

Glad to hear it John. The female Toledo snake appears to be gravid. I think the Sanduskys have a chance next year. Found a Black Rat DOR in Vermont last year, what a cool snake. Hope all is well.

Glad to hear about the female. She makes great babies.

Are the Vermont obsoleta as dark as the rest of the New England ones? I was head starting a pair of Worcester county black rats for our local F&W a couple of years ago and I was amazed at how dark they were.

I'm doing well (thanks for asking). I'm mostly building up a mandarin collection but my gloydi are always a pleasure.

Hope you are well too.

Best regards
John

Hello Mr Bruno
Interesting to hear that the grandparents are alive and well. Any info on when this location origionally was caught in the wild and precisely where?
Pictures of the grandparents would be very interesting to see.
Please please

The parents of my animals (they're unrelated) were collected in Toledo in the early 90's. I may post photos at a later date; personally, I think posting photos and listing one's collection borders on the sleazy, but that's just me.
