Best outdoor snake trap

Robotchicken Jun 01, 2006 02:09 PM

i was wondering what the best outdoor snake trap i can homemake is? besides pitfall traps. i live on a golf course and go out almost every day to look for things and hardly ever find any snakes and i want to make a trap so at night i can catch one.
im planning on buying pinky/fuzzy mice and mainly want to catch desert kings/corn snakes/ or bullsnakes
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
also, whats somthing i can use as bate that i can just find around my house? like maybe a chicken egg or somthing?

lll reptile sells caps you can put on pvc pipe to make a trap. and you can buy a catch n release mouse trap for free bait.

ive made one out of a 2 litter bottle, and im planning on buying some pinky mice or adults. do the bottle traps work outside?

LarryF Jun 01, 2006 07:20 PM

The 2 liter bottles might work, but make sure you drill LOTS of holes in it, otherwise you've just reinvented the solar oven.

Whether the mouse will work as bait or not I don't know, but I'd think about seeing what your local authorites think about the idea first (as in, is it animal cruelty to leave a baby mouse outside to die of starvation or be eaten alive by ants?).

well, the people who work at the golf course know about it and are fine with it...ill feed the thing! lol

The people at the golf course do not enact the laws. What State do you live in? In a great many States, the majprity I believe, it is illegal to trap snakes. They may only be caught by hand or a hand held device like a snake hook.

Oklahoma, and im not dumb, i kno the golf course workers arent the law. they just wont tell

rhallman Jun 04, 2006 06:57 PM

I am not actually sure of Oklahoma's laws regarding reptile traps but I did not realize you were one of the handful of folks on here who thinks it is ok to violate laws to suit their own desires as long as they do not get caught. Keeping that in mind your other statement might be debatable.

Then I guess you also know that you posted this on a board that is well known to be monitored by the Fish and Game departments of several states? I don't know if OK is one of them, but I wouldn't be stunned.
