viewing RETF at night

atimbers Jun 01, 2006 02:39 PM

I've read that you can view RETF at night with a low wattage red light since they can't see the red light sperctrum. Is this true and does anyone have suggestions with which brand to choose?

Yes it's true that you can view them at night with a red light (I use a 25 watt red light bulb that I got at Wal-Mart) to view my RETF's at night. You can also use an Exo Terra Night Glo bulb to view them as well, but it doesn't give off as much light as a red bulb would, plus the Exo Terra bulb is used more for heat.
Hope that helps

I wouldn't say that it was entirely true that the frogs can't see the red light, mine sure can (wtf) and it keeps them sleeping when I had it. It should be used only for viewing, and not left on all night long. The temp at night can be cooler than daytime temps, so as long as its not too cold in your room, room temp should be fine.

Interesting. Our WTF positively wakes up when we switch his "night" environment on. He's out of his sleeping spot in minutes, and lately singing (LOL). We use a HeatGlo red and leave it on all night. He doesn't do too much (very laid back personality), but when I check on him in the morning, he has moved to back to his spot for sleeping, or if he hasn't, he does so as soon as we put the daylight lights on.
