She ONLY comes out at Night...

Rizzio Jun 01, 2006 02:55 PM

I just got a ball python shes a few years old, was only fed rats by my friend that breads. She just moved into her glass case with me a few days ago. She literally only comes out at night, and when she comes out at night shes all over the place. Is it only her? Or will she eventually come out sometimes during the day?

Ball Pythons are nocturnal.

I realize this, but is she ever gonna be active during the day?

For the most part ... Nope.

You might be able to encourage him/her to come out a little earlier in the evening by keeping the room dark and quiet...
I noticed in the fall (when it gets darker earlier, most of mine start peaking out active around 6-7:00. but now that the days are longer and lighter, they really don't come out till 9-9:30.
A glass tank will also make them stay in their hide longer... I noticed since I switched to a rack that they are brave about coming out. You could try covering 3 sides of your tank withsome sort of aquarium background to make it feel more secure. But there is really not much you can do to Change Mother Nature... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....

The only time you might see her during the day is if she is overdue for a meal.

LOL... I was thinking "what part of nocturnal don't you understand?"...
But I can empathise .... advice is often asked when you already know the answer but wished you didn't.
