I was shovelling mice into him and he didn't even bother to close his mouth all the way.

can't wait to see him in natural sunlight.

sorry

Infatuated with his reflection.

Clydesdale,
Very pretty snake, and great pics--thanks for sharing! I hope that you enjoy this boy as much as I enjoy my antaresia--a spotted and a pair of childreni. Lots of personality--fun to just hang out with them.
About the food--mine are ALWAYS hungry. My spotted, who is female, has never refused a meal and if I don't watch her intake, she gets pudgy quickly. In my experience, pythons have, in general, slower metabolisms than colubrids. My kings and rats who are the same size as my spotted get two same sized food items to her one. They are much more active.
I love to watch my spotted coil her food item while hanging upside down from her basking branch, and then eating it the same way. Then she rights herself and nestles down to digest!
Enjoy your new spotted baby!
regards,
althea
Thanks for the response. That's one thing I was wondering about: How much to feed him. I plan on feeding him every two weeks. But how much / what size rodent per feeding would you give a snake this size? He's 3.5 feet.
I would suggest stepping up to small rats if you haven't already. Rats are much more nutricious than mice. My spotted male is around 4.5 feet and will eat a nice medium rat with no problems.

I gave him a small rat for his last feeding. He swallowed it no problems.
Great looking snake you have there. How long did it take for yours to reach that size? Mine is 4 years old, 3.5 feet and I'm wondering if he has any more growing to do.
Mine is about 4.5 years as well. When I got him when he was supposedly 2-3 years, he was about the size of yours. Once I started feeding rats, he grew pretty quickly to the size he is now but his growth has slowed again, I don't think he'll get any bigger. Good luck with yours... Foster is my favorite of all my snakes.
