Substrate Question

Geckofanatic23 Jun 01, 2006 10:02 PM

Has any one used that Carefresh bedding (shredded paper pulp) for their kings? I ask this because I ran out of aspen recently and had to clean out my Cal King's cage. I have her on newspaper right now and haven't been able to go buy more aspen, all of the local stores are out. She loves to burrow and seems to be a lot more secure buried in aspen. Would carefresh work too? All of my local supply stores carry it constantly, unlike aspen. Thanks for any help!

I've used it for a couple of my Kings before. It held their burrows, but not as well as the aspen. Also, I found it to be a bit dusty from time to time. I never fed on it, so I don't have any positive or negative feedback on that. I just really don't feel comfortable with feeding snakes on any type of loose substrate.

I agree on the not feeding on the loose substrate method. All of my snakes have separate feeding containers. I think I'm going to use the carefresh temporarily for about a week until the local reptile store can order some aspen in for me. Thanks for your input!
