Whats the SCL?

The SCL is the Straight Carapace Length. It is measured from above the turtle's carapice in a straight line (center of the shell)as opposed to a line that would "hug" the carapace down the center of the shell. It is important to know how a person is measureing their turtle. The first method gives you a smaller number that is an accurate measure of the length of the turtle. The second method give you a larger number that isn't a reflection of the length.

If you are asking for information about a turtle that you are going to buy make sure they are using the SCL, or you might be surprised at how small the turtle is.
