HELP... Crested gecko is very sick!

stikigekko Jun 02, 2006 08:01 AM

I have a female crested gecko who has been lethargic for the past couple of weeks. She has also had problems with shedding last time which we helped her with. Last night she looked really bad... barely moving and sitting with her mouth gaping open and constantly trying to lick. We put water in front of her which she drank but she still has her mouth wide open this morning and it isnt looking good. I'm going to take her to a vet but by the sound of it its going to be very expensive so I just wanted to see if any one might be able to clue me in as to what is wrong with her and wether or not she has a chance.

By going to the Vet. There could be so many different reasons why your girl is sick, very hard for anyone to know for sure /or what to tell you do do without knowing the cause. Seems from what you say she has been sick for quite some time.

The fact shes sitting with her mouth open since last night indicates shes having difficulties breathing. I sure hope you go ther there, and she will be okay real soon.

Please let us know how you made out, my thoughts are with you BOTH!

Two things come to mind which could be causing your gecko's illness. Temps are too hot or respiratory infection. It also could be calcium crash, especially if she is being bred or recently has been laying eggs.
