Iguana owners

AdeliaGrey Jun 02, 2006 02:46 PM

Upon browsing other categories of the Lizard Forums, I found a lot of interesting conversations and a lot of interesting lizards.

Do any of you own any other types of lizards? How do they interact with your iguanas?

If you don't, is there a reason? Are people who own iguanas different in a way than those who own water dragons or any other types of lizards?

I know diet is a big thing for me. I'm a vegetarian because I don't need to eat animals to sustain myself. One of the main reasons I looked into getting an iguana in the first place was their diet. There is nothing wrong with an animal eating another animal to survive, but I just don't think I could contribute to it (i.e. go out and buy animals for my animal to eat and sit there and watch it devour another being) I hope this is making sense.

Furthermore, how has your iguana contributed to your life? I'm really interested in a response to this.

Have a great day everyone.

I kept reading and thinking of new questions.

Do other lizards form the kind of bonds that iguanas do with their owners? All the pictures I saw were of these huge lizards in huge habitats that didn't contain any people.

Do you think iguanas are easier to take care of because you can just let them roam around your house and have various basking spots around as opposed to having to make big enclosures because certain lizards like to dig?

I've got a Mali Uromastyx, and a Bearded Dragon, as well as my iguana. They intereact very well, all aknowledge that the others exist. I've got a nice picture that i hope to scan soon of the three of them hanging together.

Do you have any thoughts on the other questions I asked?

im also a vegetarian. on the flip side- i have snakes that eat everythign from baby mice to 15 lb pigs. it took my a while to get over the- i dont eat them , why should they thinking. then i figured out, they dont have a choice, they have to eat mice and rats and rabbits and blah blah blah. i have pet rabbits. i have feeder rabbits that i breed. anyway- back to lizards. since i have a rescue, i dont really 'own' many animals. we are slowly accmulating a few permanent residents as they come in. we keep them for education - and to give me something to do when the rescue is going slow. we have 4 snakes that we wont give up and were about to get 2 more that we wont adopt out. i would love to have a bearded dragon for our education things. we're waiting for a red eared slider or other large turtle/torti. My husband wants a large monitor like a nile or even crocodile. we just arent that into buying reptiles (since that defeats the purpose of what we do). i forgot a few of your questions but the one about what has an ig done for us in our lives or something to that extent- they are very inquisitive creatures. i think theyre very intelligent and love being around people. i used to 'baby sit' the schools ig during spring and xmas and summer breaks. i would lay on the floor next to him for hours and just talk to him. hed bob his head and tilt it and just sit there next to me. you couldnt open his cage without him coming out to see you. hed gladly ride around on your shoulders all day if youd let him. he sat on the back of the sofa every nite and ate off my plate (since im a veggie and all, he got part of my salad). i dont know how to put it into words what he did for me, but maybe you can interpret it yourself....
