inbreeding?

spentchange Jun 02, 2006 05:13 PM

i was wondering if it is a bad thing to buy all of my luecs from the same person when i plan on breeding. i would think like any other animals that inbredding is not good. i would rather by two lues from two or three breeders and breed some great cluthes. let me know if i am over thinking this.

I'm not sure what the authority is, but I have read that inbreeding doesn't usually manifest any particular harmful effects in Dendrobates for several generations at least. The jury is still out on the possible genetics of spindly leg syndrome. So far, my imitators, which are all from the same line haven't shown in particular harmful effects so far, but I could be missing something in the tadpole stages because I let them raise their own, can't see everything going on, and am unable to keep track of any tad deaths.

sorry for the late repsonce. i was just wondering about it so i thought i would ask. i think i am going to try and get a couple luecs, imitators, or galactonotus from two breeders and hope for the best. at this point i just need to relax and keep researching every angle before diving in.
