Snake found in yard. Any guesses?

FangsforNothing Jun 02, 2006 06:34 PM

Hey everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me ID a snake I found in my yard today. Photo's included. I live in a suburb of Dallas, Texas. I'd guess the snake was around 3 feet long and had a diamond-style marking (see picture). I carried it across the street to a wooded area (didn't have the heart to kill it) and dropped it off. On the way he wriggled enough to get his side teeth (small teeth, like a serrated knife) under my skin. I never saw fangs, though.

The head was shaped like a blunt-tipped diamond:

I've never seen a garter snake this big, and I know it wasn't a rattler. Any help here?

K....ASCII art didn't show. Ignore that bit of insanity.
