Hognose /Ocala Fla.

just saw a hognose out in my shed and went to get camera and it was gone.it was gray and dark gray. patterned similar to a Copperhead startled me a lil cause i was in sandles. i was wondering if it was a Southern or an eastern???sorry no pic but the desciption may be enough.Chris btw im in SW Ocala Fl.

They are a fairly common find along side pigmy's when I get to play in Ocala. Always fun to observe them in their natural habitat(THEIR shed! LOL).

thanx i do believe it was a southern ,it was larger than my captive western female,that is the only snake other than Racers(maybe 5) ive seen ,been here 3 monthes. is it possible for a coachwhip to be sighted here in Ocala when riding my 4 wheeler i saw a specled brown tail slither into the brush as rapid as a Racer would???

Yes, coachwhips can be found in the area. They are far and few between for me in that area. In years past I have located a healthy population or two of coachwhips in the Palatka area.

Ian,

That snake in the photo is an Eastern, not a southern.

These are southerns.
By the way the dark blackish one in the other reply is an eastern. They are there as well.

not at all ,they were 2-tone gray almost black with a copperhead type pattern.Chris
