Tail Rot?!?!

brit59brat May 19, 2003 08:24 PM

I have been gone all day and came home to what looks like tail rot. my sav has on the end of her tail a small section that looks black and feels very stiff. not to be too gross but it smells like something died. can tail rot come about this quickly, i know it was not there yesterday? and how is it treated? do i need to make an emergency vet appt or will it work itself out? i have never had any of my lizards get this so i really am not sure about it. any help or info would be much appreciated

The tip of the tail sometimes dies from frequent tail whipping. Take the animal to the vet because your conditions may not be the same as someone who their monitor heals just fine afterwards. Restriction from dry shedded skin can cut circulation and cause something similar but it shows as a ring indented in the tail before getting that far.

she does have small black circles a little farther up from her tail, i already planned to take her to the vet but want to have a good idea of what it is and what i'm in for since i haven't been to this vet before. i don't want bad advice from an idiot vet. thank you for answering so quickly tho! any and all info is ALWAYS appreciated
