will this toad be okay here?

thefroglady08 Jun 03, 2006 07:44 PM

hey. I've got a little female green frog in a 10 gallon tank with a dish for her to swim in and she's doing good. A few minutes ago, I got a call about a spadefoot that had been found at my friends house, and she wanted to know if I could keep it, because she has animals that tend to kill them. I told her I'd take it...but I need to know one thing...

Can they stay in the same tank together and be okay? I know both are nocturnal, and the spadefoot burrows almost constantly. Neither is much bigger than the other, so they won't eat each other.

But my main concern was space. I have a small critter carried or w/e that they sell at petstores, and if needed I can put the toad in that until I can get a bigger tank, but I really don't want to if I don't have to. I don't see why the toad would need much, since it stays burrowed for the majority of the time.

Wherever I put the toad, it won't be there for good, just for a day or two until I can get to the petstore to get another tank. Oh yeah, I had a spadefoot once before, and had it for several months, but it died 3 years ago, so anything you know about spadefoots would be helpful.

They do stay buried most of the day but if you do take him get him a larger tank asap. Since he is nocturnal he'll be out most of the night and will probably be trying to escape lol. You could also take him and relocate him to a safer area and turn him loose there. I belive that would be the best solution to prevent the toad from injuring itself rubbing his nose on the glass/plastic trying to get free.
