Double Het for Snow question?

snakeguy46 Jun 04, 2006 01:35 PM

Just a genetic question for the pros...Say you have a DBLhet for snow male and bred him to a possible DBLhet for snow female and you hope to prove her out and after breeding you get a very small litter...lets say 6 babies. All look normal except for 1 albino....given this small litter with one albino did this prove her to be DBLhet because she must have had the albino gene.

Or maby an easier question (what do you get when you breed a DBLhet for snow male to a normal female? looking for the percentage out of 20 babies.

Thanks for the genetics help.

In your first scenario if you only had 6 babies and one was albino that just proves that the female is het albino. Because there are only six babies in the litter there still is a chance that she may carry the anery gene and it never had a chance to show up because the litter was so small.

If you bred a dbl het to a normal then the entire litter would appear normal with a 50% chance of being het for anery and albino. Hope this clears thing up for you.

The answer to the first question is that you would have proved her out to be het albino you still would need to prove out the anery part to call her a het snow. If you breed a het snow male to a normal you would get all normals 50% possible het for albino and anery.
