bad blizzard behaviour

becky2731 Jun 04, 2006 03:46 PM

I have a two month old male blizzard who is mean! Anytime I put my hand in the cage he puffs up, hisses, and lunges at my fingers. Even if my hand is outside of the glass he does the smae thing. When I first got him he tolerated very little handling. I could not pick him up or tap his tail to get him onto my hand or he'd puff up and hiss, but he would crawl into my hand on his own. When in my hand, he would shake/tremble very badly. Now is just lays in, well the fetal position~for lack of better term~ in the corner of his cage all day~not in a hide. He's eating fine and gaining weight, but I'm worried about his attitude. Any advice, suggestions, anything?

just wait tell he gets to be about 4 months and hell get a better attitude. wait a month until you try to handle him again. keep the little guy in a calm room and at the right temps and no bright lights.

Actually, blizzards are known for their bad attitudes.... It might never become "tame"...

My blizzard hets are my most tempermental females. I have to keep the daughter in her own cage. She would attack other females if she was put near them. Even through the walls she got angry at them.
The mother will handle some activity with other females, but she still will put a good nip in if they keep bugging her. She's pretty good with being handled tho.

My blizzard male and female were never very friendly. They would tolerate some handling... but were usually very jumpy.
