Could someone say wether or not the snake pictured in the East Texas Herp society banner is a Texas Indigo?
That is definitely not a Texas indigo, it looks like a snake from the genus Pituophis ( gopher snakes, bull snakes, and pine snakes. However, I wondered for a minute myself when I first saw that banner!
.
That is definitely a Louisiana pine snake (Pituophis ruthveni). There is a disjunct population of them in extreme east central Texas. I have often found it odd that the LA pine is protected in Texas, but not Louisiana. I believe this is soon going to change, as application has been made to grant the species protection under the ESA...
