Jay Martin..Helpful Hints

NfmotoAZ Jun 04, 2006 09:23 PM

Jay,
Couldnt find your post from last week about helpful tricks. But either way here is one I sort of stumbled on.

I house all my BP's in Freedom Breeder racks, im not sure what thermostats everyone uses on thier racks, but Freedom Breeders and many others use Ranco's (On/Off) or similar type thermos. I recently switched all of our racks over to Helix DBS 1000's w/nightdrops. I'm sure the night drops have a big part to do with it, or maybee it's that they create an algorythm to adjust the amount of power delivered instead of constantly turning on and off, but my electricity costs have droped by a little over $50 (more than 25%) on a monthly basis. Give it a few months and they will have paid for themselves, and continue to save me money.

Just Some food for thought guys!

It's on page 2: http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1090734,1090734

That's a good tip. I use Helix controllers (w/ night time drop) on everything, including incubators. Of course I don't use night time drop on them.

You can also order directly from Helix. www.helixcontrols.com, I prefer to order from them since you can specify probe length if you need more that the standard 4 feet. If you have metal racks MAKE SURE YOU GET A GROUNDED UNIT!

Jay, what would be so bad about letting your eggs drop 5 degrees at night??? J/K...
