Viper Geckos, Terestrial or Arboreal?

EFisher Jun 04, 2006 09:58 PM

I've read several care-sheets on these tiny geckos, but it seems there are many contradictions in these sheets as to whether or not they can climb glass or plastic.

If anyone knows positively whether or not T. Fasciata can hold to glass, please let me know.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Eric

They can climb glass, but they do not go far there body weight pulls them down. There toe pads are very week.I have seen this with 10 geckos,in the past.

Thank you for the information.

Judging by the size, I doubt they would be able to lift a simple mesh lid, which I will use just in case.

I have never seen them more than half way up a tank.

i have two viper geckos and i've only seen them climb the glass once in the past 6 months. they are capable of climbing glass and plastic, but do it very rarely. they did it more when they were younger, but now they are like 1 yr. old and pretty much have stopped, heres a pic of teh 1 time they climbed:

I have mine in a 20 long tank with a center divider that runs top to bottom (the other half has a spider gecko) this tank is 12 inches tall and I have found the viper gecko in the spider gecko's side on several occasions. At first I thought she was using leverage in the corners to help her climb up but Ihave seen her several times recently touching the top frame of the tank, in the middle of the of the glass. She is about 2 years old so she is certainly full grown. I would definately use a lid but I don't know if they would be strong enough to push it up. I have never had her and where the mesh meets the divider in my cage there is enough slack so that she can obviously crawl through.
