OT: A few Kansas herps...

Barry Miller Jun 04, 2006 11:14 PM

I managed to free up a couple hours the other afternoon and went over to a friend's property for a little herping. He's a couple miles north of the Kaw river in Kansas City, Kansas (near the race track). Sorry, no Boas or Pythons, it's not Florida for crying out load! Next time I'll try to find some racers, blacksnakes, rattlers, and milks. We may set out some sheets of corrugated metal to make things easier .

Worm snake, these are really pretty. Found quite a few ringnecks too, but no pics for some reason.

The gloves aren't for the worm snake, you'll understand soon.

It's hard to imagine that tongue coming out of that little head.

Female skink, looks gravid.

These guys are in blue and a little roughed up from the breeding season. I'll take some pics later in the summer when they color up. They're actually gorgeous snakes then.

Find the snake.

I really like this picture.

Forgive me if this one isn't in great focus. I didn't want to linger, if you know what I mean. But I did want to get a shot of the pits.

Oh what the heck:

Great to see another Kansan out and enjoying the local fauna. Great pix.
