colors of a veiled

beachbeardies Jun 05, 2006 12:21 AM

i bought a sunburst x turquoise veiled chameleon a few months ago. i usually stick to bearded dragons, but i thought a veiled was a nice change for a pet.

my question is when will his colors start to show? hes only been green since i got him, and the dark brown they turn at times too. i havent seen the yellows or turquoise yet? i know it comes later, when they are older, but id like to know when?

I think it really depends on the individual, how much it eats, lighting, etc. Just to give you an idea, here is a growth sequence of my 11 month old veiled:

1 month

3 months

4 months

5 months

6 months

8 months

10 months (not fired up)

As you can see, Lucutis had a huge color/growth spurt between 4 and 5 months. Keep in mind that most of the pictures shown here are him "fired up." He was actaully light green almost all the time in the younger photos, the black speckling was when he REALLY got "fired up."

Hopefully others can share their experiences so you have more of a balanced viewpoint.

Care to share any pictures of your new little one?

Hope this helps!

You can upload them to the Kingsnake Photo Gallery (link above, under logo). After you've done that, they will appear as filenames below the text box when you are posting a message. You can click on them and they willl appear with your message. You can always click "preview message" before you post, just to make sure you got the right one.

You can also use html to bring pictures in from another web location. This is useful for posting more and larger sized images.

Hope that helps!

HAHAHA my little guy wont let me take a picture of him. he doesnt want to be held right now, he was gettin mad, and everytime i put the camera up he would roll to the side of the branch where i couldnt see him, and when id lower the camera he'd pop right back up, then i'd try again and he'd hide again. HAHA hes camera shy or something. ill try again later, just thought id share this

Hahahaha! I love that trick! My big fella still thinks he can get away with hiding on the other side of the branch. Chams are so funny sometimes!
