Ok, so my female red eared slider just got to age, I think, and now my male is trying to mate with her. I thought I had read in a book before that they won't mate if their habitat is not suitable for laying eggs, which it isn't, I have no sand anywhere near the tank. If the male does sucessfully mate with her, and she can't lay the eggs, will this kill her? or will she lay the eggs in the water in the gravel at the bottom? If keeping her indangers her life, I'll consider setting her free, I just need to know how this usually works. Thanks for any info.

Never set her free, that's illegal and not fair for a turtle who's been living with food in her mouth all the time.

They'll mate no matter what. She could end up laying in the water...but if she starts acting hyper, you can stick her in a rubbermaid tub so she could lay in and then do whatever with the eggs.

Ok, so no setting them free. I'd like to give them to a good home, one that can take care of them. Anyone in the RDU area in NC want some red eared sliders?
