My DRIVEWAY surprise (York County Va)

guttersnacks Jun 05, 2006 02:42 PM

After living in the York County Virginia for about 5 years, and getting into Eastern kings about 2 years ago, I've taken special notice to the 6 DOR's I've seen, and never been fortunate enough to see one alive.

Last Wednesday I saw my sixth on the way to work. I got to work and made some general mumbling sout loud about how I was gonna "lose it" if I saw another dead eastern.

Flash to Thursday. Im outside in the yard, using a hoe and pulling trash and an abundance of mud out from inside the conrete tube that allows drainage under my driveway. I created a nice little pile outside the hole, turned for a moment to grab the shovel, and turned back around to see this little lady doing her darndest to haul tail across my driveway.

She aint the prettiest, and neither is the picture (I only used the 1 megapixel setting on my 2meg camera) but practically fell into my lap, so I aint complainin. Now if I could just get her a mate for next year.

Congratulations on the find. It seems that's when they turn up--when you're NOT expecting it.

That is an awesome find. Beautiful Eastern king. I'm just west of you. I'd love nothing better then to find me a New Kent county or James City county Eastern king.

I live in Virginia Beach, and found a newborn male last July. I'm hopeing to find a female for him this season. The WC '05 male is growing like a weed too. Gotta love those Easterns!
