Question for anyone that feeds fowl

Hacker Jul 31, 2003 07:25 PM

I am wondering about salmonella. Do I have to worry about that? I just started raising quail and feeding them to my snakes. So far I have been feeding off any that die or that did not come out of the egg. Of course all that I have feed were dead for no more that a couple of hours. Thanks for your time.

I personally haven't had any problems regarding the sal. bacteria. I feed my reptiles hard boiled eggs and poultry from time to time among other things (rodents, ground turkey diet, roaches, etc). The only problem I have had with poultry is that it doesn't have much bone density, and may if fed primarily, will cause your pet to be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals. I don't give poultry very often b/c for me they are harder to come by than rodents and usually just freeze them when I get home as those chicken grow to fast.
