10 out of 11 hatched (the 11th died trying to push himself between the outlying eggs)
We didnt realize his little head had gotten squished until the other 10 had left their eggs.
this was the first one out.

Which species is that? Congrats either way! Too bad about number 11.

They are Elaphe prasina
and even better, 8 out of the 10 ate a f/t pink mouse on their first try.
gotta love it.
I thought those might be prasina, but the eyes didn't look blue to me, so I thought maybe frenata.
Excellent job on those, not many cb prasina around, and congrats on the first try feeding!
Were the adults wc or cb?

I wish they were WC, but I got my pair as hatchlings back in 98
This was my 5th year getting babies, first time ever getting more than a 50% hatch
Do anything different in incubation this time?
Are these kept cool like many other Asian rats?

I keep them at room temp, and never provide any heat.
well, I take that back, I provide a little heat (tape at 80 degrees) for the babies for 12 hours.
They rarely use it, but the room I have the babies in stays a bit on the cool side.
The adults seem perfectly happy between 75-82.
As far as incubation, I cut open the eggs when the first one pipped.
my experience in the past was having many of the babies die in the egg just before pipping, so this time when the first one came out, I cut small triangles in the rest.
dont know if that made a difference or not, but it definately didnt hurt.
