racer eggs

Drewman7 Jun 05, 2006 05:54 PM

The other day I caught a black race that I had suspisions was pregnet. However, I brought the snake home and left him for the weekend. when i returned i looked through the glass of a 30 gallon tank to see a protecting mother around 11 eggs. Anyways in fear they were not worm enough I put them in some mulch in a contaner and then in my closet. Today as I was attempting to put them in a cooler with mulch in it to keep the temp ( of maybe 70.... i know now it should be 80)stable, i noticed that the eggs had a sort of a dent in them like they had deflated slitly. I'm really hopeing that this doesn't mean they won't make it. well any sugestions would be very much appreciated .Thanks

I have not bred any racers yet but have some experience with rat snake eggs. Sounds like they might be dehydrating. The medium I use is damp sphagnum moss, not wet but moist enough that you see condensation inside the plastic box (close to 100% humidity). Healthy eggs should be fully filled out for most of the incubation process until you get close to hatching. -Toby
