Urbana herp stores/boarders?

Silvergrin Jun 06, 2006 09:12 AM

Hey all. I'm going to be starting graduate studies at University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana in a few months. In looking for places to live, even so called "pet friendly" apartments/condos seem to consider corn snakes "exotics" and are thus excluded :/ I'd rather not give them up if I can avoid it. I was wondering if there's any places that might be willing to "board" about 10 snakes, for six months (or even up to a year, eep!). Actually it's more just giving me a place to put them, I'd prefer to feed/care for them myself and all that! Preferably some place that'd be happy to be paid in baby snakes, too XD

Thanks so much!

hey, i sent you an email but i thought i'd post some general info here for anyone else. I know that the average rate to board one snake is about 8 bucks a nite, around 6 if you have your own cage. and they usually want the $ up front if its going to be a long stay. we had to board our big burm for a week or so when we moved, his cage broke. It was expensive and we were terrified that we wouldnt get the snake back when we had to build him a cage, and the owner of the pet store wouldn't sign a contract saying that we'd get him back. it was scary for us and expensive. it was over 60 bucks to shove my snake in a little cage for a week and not give him any attention. when we went to pick him up, they had to unbury his cage to get to him. i was shocked. i haven't ever had to board snakes before but i'd heard good things about the store and they have a lot of high end reptiles like chondros and emeralds and surinam RTs. he was still healthy and didnt have mites so i guess it wasnt that bad but now he has a huge cage in the lr and is happy as can be. anyway- i also want to say- i offer boarding to anything. i usually charge 3 $ a week for a snake plus food (if any) and 4 $ a week for a lizard/monitor. if its going to be a long stay, we can work out price details, no biggie. we also have options like paying with baby snakes and what not since i know not everyone has cash when they need to put a snake up for boarding. i also can write up a contract saying you'll get your babies back. my website is www.freewebs.com/okreptilerescue anyway- i can board just about anything.... just thought i'd put some gen. info out there.
