Should I bring another gecko into the house?

Jeff03 Jul 31, 2003 07:59 PM

I have owned this one female gecko for five years. Now, she has lived alone for that entire period. There is this reptile expo coming up this weekend and I was thinking about getting another gecko. Could I house my original gecko (who has lived by herself for her entire life) with a new gecko that I might get from this expo? Your thoughts would be greatly appriciated!

Getting another gecko is always exciting! I think you should if you want another one. This is what i would do: First i would clean out the cage and set it up differently than before. The reason for this is the gecko you have now might be territorial and if you introduce them both at the same time then they will learn to live with each other and your gecko you have now will not reckonize the cage as her territory. Let us know if you get another leo! Hoped i helped, Katie
P.S. Make sure the one you get is the same age or around the same size.

If you do decide to get another gecko, you cannot house them together right away. The new leo must be put in another cage for around three months quarintine. The reason you must do this is to see if any problems arise from the new gecko. If yyou house them together right away that illness may be transfered to your original gecko.
Depending on if you want to breed, I'd get another female as males and females shouldnt be housed year round, the male will stress the female out by constantly wanting to breed. Good luck,
Mac
