Mali Humidity

stinky51012 Jun 06, 2006 04:17 PM

I live in FL where it is extremely humid, plus i have a turtle in a larger aquarium that makes the humidity high as well. I am purchasing a uro in a few days and the humidity is around 40-60%. What can I do to lower humidity? All the other websites only give info on how to raise it. Thanks.

Have an air conditioner, run it constantly to fight back the high cage temps, pay super utility bills but, your humidity problems will be over. We know. We live in Tallahassee.

I do the exact same thing during Indiana summers.

Is that 4060% inside the cage or inside your house? If it's just inside your house but not the cage, then it might drop a little more inside the cage with all the heat...

Chances are that the humidity is nearly the same within & outside the cage unless misting is taking place & there's no need for that with Uros except (arguably) with babies. Again, your AC is what will survive your Uros.
Curiously, do you really stink? Is it natural B.O. or associative odors? Just couldn't help but catch my attention...

I live in FL.also.Run your air all day which if you live here I'm sure you do.I don't mean run it non stop, set the thermostat to 78 degrees or whatever you like.Whatever you use for substrate make sure it's completely dry, they don't need water so there won't be that little extra humidity. With a basking temp.of 120-130 degrees, warm end ambient temp.of 100 degrees and cool end ambient temp of 85 degrees this along with the air cond.should knock it down low.I have my thermostat set at 78 degrees during the day and 77 degrees at night so my humidity in Oz's cage is about 5 percent during the day and 30-35 percent at night.I have even had to bury a little square of repti carpet under the playsand to wet with water and re-cover with the sand to get some humidity during the day.But I wouldn't recommend this for you since it's high already. So I honestly don't think it'll be a problem for you.
