Table Saws

fhayden1 Jun 06, 2006 05:12 PM

Well, I think I just got the best deal ever on a craftsman Professional TS. Chris if you read this you know how I wanted a Bosch 4000 forever. My wife and I were going to sears to pay a credit card bill. I happened to go to the tool section and they have a Father Day sale going on some power tools.

The saw I got normally sells for $600 but it was $417 after the holiday discount. When I got the 319 lb saw home I opened up the box and two of the bolts were busted off in the steel table top. I called Sears to complain and they said if I can fix it with a bolt extractor they will give me another $50 off. So I walked away paying only $367 for a solid professional table saw that my family can probably pass down for generations..lol

I would have said "but I don't have a bolt extractor however, if you let me 'borrow' one I will be sure to get them out"

Sounds like a hell of a deal.

Enjoy!

I know exactly which table saw you are talking about. It is sort of the baby brother of my saw. It is a much more versatile saw than the Bosch for the type of work you plan to do. And the super easy to adjust trunnions and dust collection will just blow the Bosch saw away.

The biggest complaint with the saw you purchased is the fence and the stamped steel wings. If you keep an eye on Ebay you can often get good fences for under $150. Last summer the 36" Rigid fence was selling for about $90. A Rigid deal got an accidental overstock and was given permission to liquidate on Ebay. That's a great fence for $90 and you can even shift the rails over for even more rip capacity.

For the stamped wings, just build a torsion box extension for the right and buy an aftermarket cast iron wing with router attachment for the left.

You could end up with an incredible table-saw/router station for very little money.

Chris,

Thanks for the ideas. Thestamped wings do seem a little cheap for that kind of saw. Having a router atachment would be aweseome. I didn't realize I could buy one. I was planning on making one.
I'll be sure to check out ebay.

You should of seen me putting the thing together by myself. It was almost comical at time. 319 pounds sure is a lot of weight. Anyway, you know the steel cage it came packed in. I flipped it upside down and keep all my pylwood organized in it. I'm slowly turning my garage in to a wood working show. I just went out last night and purchased a 4' role of Reflectix to cover my garage door to keep the heat out. A couple weeks ago I finally go a portable air conditioner for the garage. My wife was in a good mood that day...lol

Of course, she's making me sell half of my collection to pay for all this stuff. I appreciate the tips.

Thanks,
Frank
