Can Someone ID This Asian Ratsnake?

McKenzieS Jun 06, 2006 05:33 PM

This snake belongs to some folks here in South Carolina, who have him up on the Classifieds. They were told when they bought the snake that it was a "Taiwan Beauty Snake", but it sure doesn't look like MY Taiwans, or any others I've seen! It is reportedly a very nasty-tempered snake. I've seen it "in person", so to speak, but have not handled it. I'm not even sure it's an Elaphe, since it looks more like some of the Ptyas to me, but I could be wrong. I just know it's not a Taiwan, unless there is a very different "morph" of those around. It's the snake at the top of the ad.

You know when I saw that ad I figured they were just mixing up a photo. It looks like Elaphe anomala (sometimes called a korean ratsnake).

John
