Moody Shedding?

grouchyrocker87 Jun 06, 2006 08:49 PM

I recently took in a 6-7 year old captive bred female ball python. My friend was moving out of her house and had to get rid of her 4 ball pythons, she found good homes for 3 of them, but wanted to place this one in a home where she'd be able to come visit it. I've known this snake for most of its life and shes always been very calm and pleasant to handle. When she came to my house, I left her alone for a few days and then started handling her a little every couple days. I've had her for a few monthes now and shes eating very well (unfortunately shes been on live food her whole life and I dont want to switch her because shes had very poor eating habits in the past). But she has been hissing and stricking at me lately. She lives with my other, younger female ball python who is acting normally (dont worry, they are seperated during feeding!). Is there any reason anyone can think of for this complete change in personality?

Oops, I forgot to add that shes usually the most crabby when shes getting ready to shed, which I understand since her eyecaps are all cloudy making it hard for her to see. She was never like this before she made the move to my house.

put them in seperate enclosures, sometimes they get stresses out by room mates

She lived with 3 other ball pythons before she moved to my house. They are always coiled up together over their heatmat and I've never seen them appear mad at one another (although I'm definately not an expert in snake psycology!). Plus shes eating really well, better than she did at my friends house. Maybe I will try separating them for a few weeks to see if this fixes the problem, I'm just confused as to why all the sudden she would decide she didnt want a cage mate when she had 3 of them before!
