how many crickets?

eaglegirl Jul 31, 2003 08:23 PM

hi there.
how many crickets should my beardie eat?!! i offer veggies in the morning and he will occasionally eat some carrot, brocolli, or swiss chard..which seem to be his favorites. but he loves crickets.. in my beardie book it says to feed them as many as they will eat. my dragon eats around 7 or more a day.
i read they eat more veggies as they get older, and hes only around 3-5 months i think (he measures 9" i also give him the vitamin supplements and hes in real good health.

for the first time my dragon eat a pinky mouse the other day, how many do you guys recommend?

thanks for any help
diane

What size crickets are you feeding your beardie? Seven isn't very many at all. They should be no larger then the space between it's eyes. Your dragon is MUCH too young to given pinkies. They prefer insects. Please don't give it anymore.
Pinkies are reserved for females that are thin due to laying eggs, and then still, many people don't give their dragons pinkies.
Definately watch to make sure your dragon poops. This could easily cause him problems.

You gave a dragon that young a pinkie??? Please stick to crickets! My 4 month old dragons eat about 35-50 1/2 inch crickets a day. 7 is WAY too low. The greens you should worry about your dragon getting are collard turnip and mustard green. If you have to pick one thing stick to collard greens. Grated carrots or other veggies can be added in small amounts.

So..at least 20 calcium covered crickets a day plus collard greens and possible some dragon pellets as well make a good diet.

Has your dragon pooped since the pinkie? Thats scary...hope it err... comes out all right.

My 8-week old beardie eats at least 50 crickets (1/8"-3/8" ) per day. Start feeding her the smaller ones and then work your way up to the bigger ones- but don't go bigger than the space between her eyes. I'm sure she'd love to pig out on them. Also, leave the veggies out for her all day so she can munch on them if she gets hungry.
