7ft. female red tail boa has swelling around mouth (gumline) on one side. just bought her. previous owner treated her for mouth rot; not sure how he treated her. we have a great vet but can't get her in for a few days due to work schedules. we will get her in but would like to do what we can to help her in the mean time. we would appreciate any suggestions.

follow that site. It isn't even specific for snakes. Before you cause your snake a lot of pain, see the vet. Then, if the vet instructs you to go poking around in there removing plaque, then follow their advice. The best thing you can do is get to the vet as fast as you can and don't follow advice from sites that are not snake specific. Even that site says the reptile can aspirate plaque and get a RI from it. You don't need more infections. See the vet.

I agree that the best thing you can do until seeing the vet is wait. Make sure husbandry is superb and monitor the snake for other, more subtle signs of sickness. It is quite possible that this isn't even mouthrot but something needing a very different remedy.

my post. I would NOT repat NOT recommend self medicating, but it was a reference to give him and idea about how mouth rot looks like and some symptoms.
Please follow the other guys advice and take him/ her to a exotic VET.
DO NOT SELF MEDICATE.
