OK, east coast guys... give em up

zach_whitman Jun 07, 2006 07:11 AM

Next week I am going to be road tripping from NJ down to TN. My route is not yet nailed down. I plan on doin plenty of herping along the way, and am really hoping to find some kings. Now, I'm not asking anyone to give up their favorite flipping grounds on the internet. But if anyone could give me any general areas or regions, where I might have better luck it would be much appreciated.
thanks
Zach

come to hatteras island North carolina, i just started looking for snakes here this summer(though i catch snakes in my hometown of burlington, back inland when i'm not at the beach, a lot of beautiful black rat snakes) and within a little under a month have found two eastern kings within ten yards of each other, i found one where just a week earlier i found a black racer, and i have found an eastern hognose here before, i would like to find more of those, and ive seen some glass lizards but have'nt been able to catch one yet, plus there are what i think are northern water snakes in the sound, and about two weeks ago i saw a mud snake on the side of the road, i'm still kicking myself for not stopping, we've also got six-lined racerunners(the only one i've ever caught was inside my neighbor's minnow trap),some years back i saw a light solid brown or tan snake but couldnt catch it, and if you like turtles we have gorgeous diamondback terrapins, all in all a great place to herp, and if you can't find anything you're never too far away from a beautiful beach.

P.S. I just remembered, we supposedly have pigmy, canebrake, and eastern diamondback rattlers, though i've never seen any not even as roadkill.
