enclousure size

Juan M Jun 07, 2006 01:43 PM

Hi, I would like to know how big do Scarlet kingsnake and desert cal kingsnakes get. I am going to build them both an enclousure bigger than what they need to keep them healthy and active. I would like to know their measurement in feet if possible. Thanks Juan M.

Scarlet kingsnakes... Which are actually a milk snake, usually stay under 20". I know a couple people who have had 2 foot specimens though. To be honest, they need a small enclosure, with them it's not "the bigger the better", because scarlet kings are shy animals and having a larger enclosure will throw them off and they will want to hide more than usual.

California kings get to about 3-4 feet on average. If they stay under 3 feet their whole lives their growth is stunted.

Agreed, I have several Scarlet Kings and only 1 is over 2' at 27", most are near 20". Smaller cage is fine with THICK substrate for them to burrow, I keep pairs together year round with no problems.
