Brooks Kingsnake = Lampropeltis getula brooksi
Same thing. Brooksi = Latin.... Brooks = Common Name

Mike is correct, except that this isn't correct. LOL...
L.g. brooksi was a name incorrectly applied to the "yellow morph" of the Florida Kingsnake. The problem is that the original description of L.g. floridana was of a "yellow morph" south FL kingsnake. Therefore, the yellow south FL kingsnakes are the real floridana. The peninsular snakes are intergrades (or if you prefer, something different, but then they can't be called floridana).
The rules of taxonomy state that the first valid name applied to a population is the correct name. You can't go back and rename it later. If you do so out of ignorance of the correct situation, which was common, your new name is invalid. This what applies to the name brooksi.
You also shouldn't rename existing, recognized populations based on stupid technicalities that could have easily been fixed other ways (e.g. L.g. meansi) - OOPS, did I say that out loud....again?
So let's assume a future research decides to reexamine (again) the validity of these large yellow S FL morphs of the kingsnake. After their research, they decide that this population does deserve subspecific recognition, they will be forced to call them floridana and to come up with a new name (or find an existing name) for the peninsular populations.
Just a pet peeve. L. g. brooksi never was a valid name, and never will be.

Very interesting, I had asked a breeder at a show and he said the brooks and brooksi were different snakes, it depended on markings?! there are too many names, descriptions, morphs, genetics. I STILL cannot get used to many of them, it's mind numbing.I eventually hope to breed some snakes in a couple of years, so by then i will have more knowledge, but for now, I am just enjoying my pretty snakes without getting too caught up in all the hypo, het hiddledy ho, double chocolate mochachino sandra dee-no.
thanks guys

What a dufus. You might want to find someone who actually knows something about their own snakes before you buy any.
