how do you make an incubator without vermiculate(I don't want to catch asbestos). thanks!!!

Sand/potting soil mix or Sphagnum moss. I wouldn't would to catch asbestos either...it can be hard to shake ;P I've used Perlite over the last three years...It moistens evenly, and if you put it in a clear deli cup, you will be able to see the actual water level in the container. I keep the water level at least an inch below the lip of the deli cup.
