Scale rot?

13lackcat Jun 07, 2006 06:13 PM

I have a WC female blood that has a few issues. She came to me with a bad case of mites, which appears to have been sucessfully treated, and a pretty bad place on her head were she had been rubbing it against her enclosure. She has finally calmed down and stopped rubbing her head and it's now scabbed instead of bleeding and open. But she now has many scales that are sticking out at weird angles and a few that are brown and scaley or missing altogether and bleeding..could this be scale rot(and if it is, is it contaigious? she's not anywhere near my other snakes, but i'd just like to know) or could it just be from her rubbing herself when i'm not around, because it appears that she has stopped rubbing and is content, but i can't watch her all the time. thanks

i dont think its scale rot. we've got a burm that had a nice cage before we moved. when we moved it broke and was unrepairable. we had to board him at a pet store that i'd heard wonderful things about. when we went to pick him up he was in a tiny and i do mean tiny cage. he had rubbed his nose and head raw. the cage was made out of regular plywood. (this is not the cage that they put him in while i was standing there either) Its been quite a while since we moved and his nose is still messed up. its gotten better with each shed but i dont think he'll ever be back to his former glamor..... if you have a pic. it would help, i could better compare it to what mine looks like.
hope that helped- im not a vet or anything like that so i cant give you a 100% relaible 'diagnosis' or anything, just sounds like what happened to my Zeus...
